We have an immediate opportunity for qualified Aerospace Welders/Machinists to support our Contractor Field Team at Joint Base Lewis-McCord, WA. This is a union position. DescriptionProducing replacement parts and new parts in making repairs of metal parts of mechanical equipmentInterpreting written instructions and specifications; planning and laying out of workUsing a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instrumentsSetting up and operating standard machine tools; shaping of metal parts to close tolerancesMaking standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machiningQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredA minimum of 2 years of aviation experience performing the above duties and responsibilitiesKnowledge of the working properties of the common metals; selecting standard materials, parts, and equipment required Fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipmentWork normally requires a rounded training in machine-shop practice usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experienceMust have the ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams accurately in both standard and metric, including mm to inch conversion if necessaryProgram both CNC Lathes and Mills on a conversational programming interface (Mazatrol and FagorMust possess ability to setup, program, operate and troubleshoot CNC (computer numerical controlled) lathes and mills without assistance to fabricate metallic andnon-metallic parts and special tooling required for aircraft maintenance supporAbility to construct Cad drawings of parts and/or tooling utilizing AutoCAD software for the purpose of determining coordinate dimensions needed for conversational programmingFabricate custom tooling for Lathes and Mills when necessary using available machines. Understands and interprets EIA/ISO G-code programming. Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling. Understands and has the ability to perform tool wear offsets. Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on CNC machinery. Should be familiar with welding practices and able to read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols, Physical Demands Work will require a high level of hand dexterity and finger use in both hands, close vision corrected/uncorrected to 20/20, prolonged periods of standing and sitting in combination with stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, and pushing, as well as ability to lift 25lbs and over with assistance.Work Environment (ADA) May be required to work in areas in the hangar and on the flight line that are noisy and dusty. May be exposed to moderate discomforts, such as heat, cold and wind. May be required to wear personal protective equipment, when applicable. Security ClearanceThis position will require U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
