Sunnyside Housing Authority Maintenance Mechanic II in Sunnyside, Washington

The Sunnyside Housing Authority operates 285 units of affordable housing in Sunnyside, Grandview and Mabton.  Its mission is to assure that the people of the community are sheltered, and it has a special responsibility to those who experience barriers to housing because of income, disability, or special need.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent.  Must have at least three or more years proven experience comparable to a certified journeyman level craftsman in more than one of the building trades or a Voc-Tech graduate with a journeyman rating in one of these trade classifications:  electrical, painting, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, plastering or utility services; or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience to meet the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Repair/Replace drywall and sheetrock
  • Electrical wire sizes and the loads they will allow
  • Advanced plumbing skills
  • Estimate labor and materials for assigned projects
  • Convert or transition different types of plumbing pipe material
  • Repair/Replace plumbing lines and fixtures
  • Troubleshoot and repair appliances
  • Repair/Replace basic locks and bolts
  • Isolate electrical shorts in wiring systems
  • Understand, follow and give oral and written instructions in English
  • Make decisions without supervision
  • Provide leadership to subordinate employees
  • Computer skills that include use of a PC and an IOS or Windows Tablet
  • Basic math skills
  • Pass Asbestos Awareness Class within 12 months of hire

Required Licenses, Permits and Other Requirements

  • Position requires a positive attitude and a strong service orientation towards low-income, elderly and/or disabled residents
  • Must have and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's license and safe driving record commensurate with insurance standards
  • Must obtain Fair Housing Certification within 6 months of employment
