Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the building's equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair of boilers and boiler room auxiliary equipment such as pumps, steam and water valves, air compressors, and high-pressure condensates.

• Monitor load demands and start or shut down respective boilers, air compressors, and water pumps to maintain the required steam, air, and water output needed. React to changes in load demands as required, including during emergencies.

• Monitor the chemical feed system for water treatment and make necessary tests and adjustments to ensure correct chemical levels.

• Manipulate valves to control the flow of water and fuel and to increase or decrease steam, water, and air as required. Adjust equipment controls to correct malfunctions if they occur.

• Observe operating equipment, meters, and gauges to ensure that operation is in accordance with specified instructions. Inspect boiler safety devices.

• Report abnormal operating conditions or major repair requirements to the shift supervisor, assist in implementing remedial action, and log all information.

• Perform minor repairs, such as replacing defective meters, packing valves, worn gaskets, and tightening joints.

• Receive calls from departmental personnel regarding problems, such as lack of temperature control. Relay information to the shift supervisor of maintenance performed and log all information in the daily log book.

• Maintain the boiler room and work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. May clean and paint equipment as necessary.

• Assist in the annual boiler inspection and prepare boilers for annual inspection.

• Demonstrate personal commitment to the organization’s core values through active involvement in the quality improvement process.

• Demonstrate safe work practices and attitudes, follow all safety rules, work to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participate in organizational and departmental safety programs.

Essential Skills

• Mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostics

• Electrical

• Boiler maintenance

• Welding

• Blueprint reading

• Schematic reading

• PLC troubleshooting

• Food manufacturing experience

• Boiler and refrigeration experience

• Prior experience in manufacturing maintenance

• Technician-level knowledge and mechanical ability to operate, perform routine maintenance, and conduct troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and natural gas-fired equipment

• Basic computer skills

• Familiarity with safety standards and regulations

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Microsoft Office suite and ERP or CMMS programs

• Forklift certification (preferred but not required)

• Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions and training in English

• Team player with flexibility

• Attention to detail, cleanliness, organization, and ability to follow instructions

• Hand/eye coordination and mechanical aptitude

• Self-motivated with minimal supervision

• Sense of urgency in work performance

• Reliable and punctual with a commitment to consistent attendance

• HAZ-MAT training (preferred but not required)

• RETA 1&2 certification (preferred but not required)

Work Environment

The position is located in a facility that is currently expanding its production capabilities and moving to a new plant approximately 10-15 minutes from the current site. Shifts are available from 2:00-10:30 PM, Monday through Friday, or 10:00 PM-6:30 AM, Monday through Friday. The work environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization, with a focus on maintaining a high standard of operational efficiency.
