Floyd College of Medicine (COM) at Washington State University (WSU) is seeking a Vice Dean for Research (VDR). The position will be based in Spokane, WA, and report directly to the COM Dean. The VDR will oversee the Office of Research in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, which provides direct oversight of research enterprise within the College of Medicine. The incumbent must demonstrate qualifications to be eligible for tenure/track position within the appropriate academic department within the College of Medicine. The VDR duties include, but are not limited to, the following: oversee the COM strategic plan for research, provide oversight for the College's internal grant and pre-award review mechanisms, develop comprehensive capital and operating budgets for the College research enterprise, provide guidance in identifying and communicating opportunities for extramural funding, serve as the College's liaison to the WSU Office of Research, develop and implement College policies with respect to research, identify and develop research opportunities for investigators, and monitor all research activity in the College for compliance with relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements. Summary of Duties: • The Vice Dean of Research reports to the Dean and collaborates with colleagues from COM, other WSU colleges, and partners external to WSU to achieve the mission in medical education, research, clinical care, and public service in undergraduate, professional, graduate, and continuing medical education. • Serves as the chief research officer of the COM, responsible for promoting investigator-initiated scholarship and the development of workload and compensation models for all faculty engaged in research. • Works with the Dean, faculty, and administrative support teams to develop a strategic plan to support the long-term growth and diversification of research in the COM. • Stays abreast of national trends that impact biomedical, behavioral, and other relevant scientific domains and strategically plans necessary changes in the research enterprise to ensure viability of the mission. • Works with the Dean, and other relevant administrators including department chairs to develop comprehensive capital and operating budgets for the COM research enterprise. • Oversees and coordinates the operations activities of the core research facilities that are embedded in the COM. • Manages the allocation and use of bridge/research funds. • In collaboration with department chairs, supports the selection, evaluation, promotion and retention of highly qualified faculty and staff engaged in research. • Provides expertise and support for faculty on institutional guidelines for conducting research in the COM including advising faculty on IACUC and IRB proposals, research contracts and intellectual property. • Works with relevant administrators to onboard, orient, support and develop faculty engaged in research. • Identifies and implements opportunities for research faculty professional development, including mentorship in research for junior faculty, with an overarching goal to grow the College's research portfolio, • Partners with relevant stakeholders within the college to organize Research Grand Rounds that promote research collaborations between faculty within the COM, on the Health Sciences Campus and beyond throughout WSU, and with faculty from other institutions. • Oversees in the development of research activity at the COM regional campus
