Job Description

Responsible for planning, analysis, design, implementation, training and support of infrastructure technology systems. Collaborates directly with the customer to develop a definition of technology requirement. Direct responsibility for researching and engineering technical solutions, project estimates and operating budgets. Maintains Customer and vendor relationships. Maintains a technology leadership role, credentials and expertise. Recommends technology cycles and executes end-of-life technology refresh programs. Prepares annual budgets. Executes assignments under minimal direction. Frequently manages or is a resource on five or more concurrent projects. Responsible for availability of infrastructure technology systems and quality of operating units. Expected to meet deadlines and budgets. Mentors and provides direction to operational staff. Errors and omissions generally create significant business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Routine performance and capacity reporting, forecasting and planning.
  • Execute assignments in compliance with department KPI targets.
  • Develop and deploy engineering models that best support Service Level Requirements.
  • Maintain inventories of technology assets to ensure maintenance and support contracts compliance and avoid license compliance issues.
  • Develop and execute RFPs to research and recommend technology solutions.
  • Delegates routine technical and administrative functions to IT staff and provides ongoing direction. • Troubleshoot complex system design issues a provide root cause analysis.
  • Analyze and Optimize system designs for a high level of efficiency and reliability. Audit system configurations against desired state standards.
  • Maintain annual education and certification programs.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of technology hardware, operating systems, networking, communication systems, telecommunications and infrastructure applications -- specific to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Research and resolve most complex problems with the ability to develop and execute creative solutions.
  • Available to work outside of normal business hours as required.
  • Available to be on call 24x7. 

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Information Systems, Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Engineering or related field. Active bachelor junior/senior OR BS/BA program internship for Associate System Engineer.
  • Depending on discipline: 
    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
    • Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate preferred
    • VMware Certified Associate (VCA)
    • Citrix Certified Associate (CCA) preferred
    • ITIL Foundation preferred

Associate System Engineer:

  • 0 to 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Technology management skills, excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Proven analytical problem-solving skills.

System Engineer I includes the above requirements plus:

  • 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated technology leadership abilities.
  • Good process orientation and a basic understanding of the value delivered by developing and validating engineering models with customer requirements.

System Engineer II includes the above requirements plus:

6 years of relevant experience in an enterprise-size company (500 or more employees).
