Summary of Duties:

Under general supervision, the SNAP-Ed Spokane County Program Coordinator assists with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the Spokane County SNAP-Ed program. The SNAP-Ed Program Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with staff to develop and implement a culturally sensitive nutrition education program that combines direct education with policy, system and environmental (PSE) change initiatives relating to healthy eating and active living among the limited-resource population in Spokane County. The SNAP-Ed Program Coordinator works closely with the SNAP-Ed state staff, other WSU Extension staff and faculty, the SNAP-Ed Implementing Agency, and community partners to ensure activities meet the requirements of the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) Guidance for SNAP-Ed. This is a temporary position expected to end on 9/30/2024. Renewal is dependent on satisfactory performance and annual background check, the need for Extension to complete the project and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

• Related program experience could include public health, nutrition, education, family and consumer sciences, counseling, youth development, and program development.

 

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using oral, written, and listening skills.

 

• Demonstrated knowledge of MS Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word) Adobe Acrobat and the ability to adapt to new technologies and techniques.

 

• Ability to travel regionally, statewide, and occasionally out of state.

 

• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license; ability to travel within targeted counties.

• Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.

 

• Employment is contingent upon passing a background screening.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Lived experience, or experience working with diverse communities using a strengths-based approach, showing sensitivity to those who experience poverty, racism, marginalization, and trauma.

 

• Academic training, education or experience in nutrition, and nutrition education for youth.

 

• Prior experience working with adults and/or youth, especially in extension or other youth development related program.
