Job Description The primary duties of this position are to assist Idaho Department of Fish and Game biologists with the collection of fisheries data. Incumbent may assist Avista or Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks biologists with similar work. Fieldwork duties include sampling fish using backpack and boat electrofishing equipment, gill nets, and other gear types; collection of stream habitat data; assisting with maintenance of PIT tag antennas; and collecting biological and tag data from angler-caught fish. This position is intended to span from July 1 to October 31. Housing is available. 

Requirements

Natural Resources Technician I:

  • Positions at this level are seasonal and/or temporary.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Must be capable of conducting strenuous field work and willing to work long hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be willing and capable of being trained in the safe and proper operation of equipment (including vehicles & boats) related to a particular field of specialization or assignments.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.

Natural Resources Technician II: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Two (2) + years of experience in parks and recreation, land use management, natural resource field or equivalent preferred

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Some higher education preferred.

  • Must be capable of conducting strenuous field work and willing to work long hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Must be willing and capable of being trained in the safe and proper operation of equipment (including vehicles & boats) related to a particular field of specialization or assignments.

  • Must be able to keep accurate records, adapt to varying work schedules, and work outside in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently and meet deadlines.

  • Possess communication skills to deal effectively with peers and the public.

  • Proficient in using standard office computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, email applications, and data entry.

  • Ability to compose clear, concise, and accurate written communications through emails, basic reports, and other business documents.

  • Requires a valid driver's license.

This position may be filled on a regular basis without further competition at the conclusion of the assignment by the employee selected for the temporary position.
