Position Title: MANAGING DIRECTOR (VOLUNTEER W/ STIPEND) Hours:Variable; 20-25 hours per week * Volunteer Stipend:Approx. $10K annually*
*BACKGROUND *
Stage Left was founded on the belief that live theater should be a force for political, intellectual, and social stimulation, and should be relevant to the daily lives of the audience and the players. We seek to broaden the involvement of the general population by engaging issues of topical value and stimulating the analysis and discussion of the structure and goals of society.
Our mission is:To tell stories, build community, and pursue equity through the production of new and existing theatrical works.
Stage Left was founded in 2011 to provide an alternative theater experience in Spokane and became a non-profit LLC by early 2013. We are a small, community theatre with an annual budget of $175K, that produces 4-5 mainstage productions and sponsors artistic festivals and special events. The Theatre resides in a retail-turned-theater space in downtown Spokane, which has one stage with a 60-seat audience.
MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD
To be fully transparent, because we value being able to pay every person at least a small stipend for their participation, we acknowledge that this impacts the ability to keep any regular employees, including leadership at this time. As such, operations depend heavily on fundraising, and all positions are fully volunteer or contract based.
We are currently seeking a Managing Director to help oversee the day-to-day operations of the theatre and an Artistic Director to help oversee the artistic vision and production value of the theatre.
Our goal is to fill these part-time, volunteer positions so they can hit the ground running, knowing that we aspire to get to a place of growth that will allow our organization to support regular, paid employees in the future. The work will be plentiful and challenging, but also, we hope, incredibly rewarding and fulfilling.
*Are you ready to join us and take on the challenge? * We want to meet you!
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Managing Director works in partnership with the Artistic Director and Technical Director as the Theater's executive team. The Managing, Artistic, and Technical Directors collaborate to lead artists, staff, volunteers, and the community in realizing the Theatre's mission.
The Managing Director reports to the Board and is responsible for building an effective team internally.
