Providence St. Joseph Health Laboratory Assistant in Spokane, Washington
Description Laboratory Assistant - Clinical Lab Department at Providence Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, WA Perform proficiently and with understanding the processing and staining of tissues for frozen section. Prepare and assist pathologist in the gross exam of surgical tissues. Work competently with pathologist and other physicians throughout the hospital when assisting with various invasive procedures such as bone marrow, aspirates, and biopsies. Properly identify, record, fix, and process all specimens for histology and cytology. Must be able to work without direct supervision in maintaining smooth day-to-day operation by assuming responsibility for problem-solving in all areas of histology and cytology as well as acting as an information resource to hospital staff and physicians. Proficiency in all requirements of lab assistant job description, including venous and capillary blood specimen collections, specimen accessioning and processing is preferred. Diploma or GED Washington Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification upon hire. 1 year of experience in general clinical laboratory work. Preferred Qualifications: Coursework/Training: Formal education in phlebotomy or college courses in anatomy, physiology, and other clinical sciences. Experience in histology/cytology lab.
