Summary This position serves as the Electronics Technician in the Maintenance & Operations Shop under the supervision of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. The position is located in Engineering Service at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to the following: Alters and uses complex technical equipment, hardware and software, modifies and conducts complex tests on various types of equipment, and records results Carries out all phases of maintenance, troubleshooting, design, installation, operation and testing of a full range of electronic systems up to and including those of considerable complexity Performs the following: Installation, maintenance and repair of fire alarm system to include fire alarm function on elevators(recall system) and wireless extinguisher monitoring system, and other life safety equipment/systems, security CCTV systems including camera installation, and repair for both analog and IP cameras, electronic door openers and locks, Access Control Systems, Intrusion systems, Panic Alarm and duress systems, Nurse calls, code blue paging and patient tracking systems, Digital Media System and digital signage, CATV, Intercom system, Overhead Paging system, network equipment, wireless communication system to include wireless networks and patient internet, server setup operation and maintenance, software installation, support and upgrades, data bases, switches, work clients, wireless devices, wireless access points, system administrator responsibilities, fiber optic backbone, and software support Provides training to peers, managers, administration staff, and end users Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on projects and inspects competitively bid construction and maintenance and repair projects to insure compliance with drawings and specifications Performs preventive maintenance on electronic and electrical equipment as assigned and accomplishes necessary documentation to comply with The Joint Commission (TJC), VA and other standards or for special reports for Engineering Service in regards to electronic and/or electrical equipment or systems Troubleshoot and test equipment on maintenance contract and call in contractor when needed Assist the electricians as well as accomplished troubleshooting maintenance Responsible for all of the electronic systems and subsystems at all satellite clinics and buildings in various geographical locations Required to operate a government vehicle to travel to these sites Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electronics Mechanic/PD703290 Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not authorized Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 You may be required to serve a probationary period Subject to background/security investigation Pre-employment physical required Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP) Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP) - See "Additional Information" below for details. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Handles objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds routinely and occasionally handles objects of up to fifty (50) pounds. Frequently, work will be performed in cramped and awkward positions. The work also requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Technical, academic, and mental demands are considerable. The work performed is of a precise nature, requiring prolonged concentration. The incumbent often works under conditions of stress caused by the nature of the work and the necessity to meet deadlines. Incumbent is required to frequently travel to perform work at remote sites. Emergencies at these locations will require immediate response allowing very limited time for notice and preparation. Working Conditions: The incumbent performs duties subject to working in or near areas where patients may have communicable diseases. The incumbent must perform work safely so as not to endanger self, fellow workers, patients, or members of the public. The employee will be required to use personal protective clothing and equipment furnished for their safety and the safety of others. Work must be done both inside the building and outdoors. Special priorities may require working in the rain, and seasonal conditions will impose the temperature extremes of winter cold and summer heat. Of particular importance is the incumbent's responsibility in the safe handling of any asbestos-containing material.
