Avista Utilities Drafter - Multiple Positions in Spokane, Washington

Job DescriptionTo prepare drawings of minimum to moderate complexity which require knowledge in drafting, math, company facilities, and engineering practices. Drawings include new or modified construction and record documents for property and miscellaneous permit applications. Utilize Computer Aided Drafting Techniques using AutoCAD and related or similar software. Works from sketches, marked up copies, survey field notes and calculations, and verbal instructions. The Drafters are expected to work within the following drafting disciplines: electrical, structural, civil, mechanical, and architectural. Must be able to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares detailed drawings of new or modified substation and generation plant construction in the following drafting disciplines: electrical, structural, civil, mechanical, and architectural. Using AutoCAD software and working from notes, sketches, and verbal instructions from the project Engineer.

  • Prepares complex railroad, highway, and government agency permit application drawings for crossing or encroachments of electrical and gas facilities using field sketches, survey notes and calculations, and standards books for appropriate clearances.

  • Prepares plan and profile maps for new or modified electric transmission facilities using field survey notes, Engineer's layout, and verbal instructions.

  • Performs field checks to gather “As Built” information to be used for preparing up to date drawings of existing or recently constructed facilities.

  • Prepares Underground Network Distribution drawings to include maps, duct face drawings, structural and electrical equipment wiring and schematics.

  • Updates Substation, Generation, Transmission, and Natural Gas facilities drawings from Relay & Test prints, C&M Maintenance reports, and "As Built" prints.

  • Prepare Records of Survey and Certificates of Survey from survey filed notes and sketches provided by licensed Surveyor.

  • Peer checks others' drawings, coordinates and works on projects with external engineers.

Requirements

Drafter:

  • AAS or equivalent in Drafting.

  • 2 years related experience.

  • Basic knowledge of standard drafting concepts and a proficient level of Computer Aided Drafting knowledge, AutoCAD preferred.

  • Ability to communicate using technical terminology and the ability to comprehend and retain knowledge of the work performed.

    Drafter II:

  • AAS or equivalent in Drafting.

  • 4 years related experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of standard drafting concepts and a highly proficient level of Computer Aided Drafting knowledge, AutoCAD preferred

  • Ability to communicate using technical terminology and the ability to comprehend and retain knowledge of the work performed.
