Clearwater Paper Corporation Capital Project Engineer in Spokane, Washington
Description Reporting directly to Engineering Manager in area of expertise. The Capital Projects Project Engineer is responsible for successfully executing capital projects. This role will work with the Capital projects director, capital project engineering managers, general managers, and operations leadership to execute the capital plan. It also interfaces with site engineering to support the execution and delivery of divisional Mission Critical Objectives (MCOs). This role is instrumental in utilizing best-in-class project engineering enablers and purchasing practices. This role works across all operating divisions and with support functions, to ensure the timely delivery, accurate financial reporting, and implementation of multiple capital initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Develop, plan, and execute capital projects across the company. Individual is responsible for day-to-day capital project execution and management. Establish, define and implement key operational and executional metrics and KPI\'s to track project execution to include costs, forecasting, schedules, productivity, and supplier performance. Lead in a manner consistent with Clearwater Paper Values and Leadership Drivers. Key member of the Capital project engineering team; build strong cross functional and collaborative relationships to deliver superior results in customer service, and profit. Model and foster an engaging culture that practices respectful challenge and inclusion. Mentor and develop junior engineers. Develop partnerships with consulting engineering firms to improve overall project portfolio execution. Manage the implementation of capex projects through a customer centric approach ensuring alignment with key stakeholders. Develop cost estimates, plans, and schedules for new capital projects. Vet projects through the F.E.L. process to include development of all required documentation. Design, install, start-up, train and troubleshoot capital projects in area of responsibility. Perform safety inspections while on the jobsite to ensure contractor compliance with corporate safety standards. Initiate pre-start up safety reviews to ensure equipment is safe for operation. Develop/ utilize best in class project management enablers / tools. Coordinate with manufacturer, operations and maintenance for operational and maintenance training. Work with manufacturers to develop asset strategy. Develop project fiscal reporting framework, tools, and processes to manage capital project planning, decision making and reporting; inclusive of post project reviews and developing recommendations for continuous improvement. Proactively identify and report risks to project plans; collaborate with Operations Excellence team and divisional leaders along with finance partners to develop and model countermeasures to mitigate risks Act as SME on capital equipment understanding, assessment and decision making ensuring due diligence on all CAPEX projects during FEL and the AFCE process. Partner with contract engineering firms to compress project completion timelines. Develop detailed installation drawings to include verification of existing equipment layouts and dimensions. Provide engineering analysis during selection and optimization of equipment. Coordinate activities of consulting engineering firms and OEMs. Provide technical expertise during installation, start-up, and operation. Key Competencies & Attributes: Experience managing capital engineering project(s). Manufacturing experience in either Paperboard and/or Tissue preferable Understand and apply critical financial business metrics to project management and execution.
