Position Details:

 

Summary of Duties:

Perform general duty security work to protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, maintain order, and prevent and investigate crime. Responsible for enforcing campus regulations and local, state, and federal laws. Incumbents may be required to successfully complete a law enforcement course approved by the Washington State criminal justice training commission.

 

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

 

Security: 40%

 

• Inspect buildings and grounds for prowlers, fire, property damage, or other irregularities.

• Provide a security presence at the Spokane Campus.

• Will rotate shifts (day, evening, graveyard) throughout the year.

• Write daily activity reports.

• Maintain confidentially.

 

Patrol: 35%

 

• Patrol a designated area on foot or bike, or in a patrol car to enforce institution rules and regulations, local, state, and federal statutes and ordinances.

• Maintain surveillance of an area suspect for criminal activity.

• Daily pickup of pre-counted bank bags and transport them on campus for pickup.

 

Communication/Technology Management: 10%

 

• Operate communication equipment and systems; answer inquiries, receive reports of criminal activity, dispatch foot and mobile units, operate camera surveillance and access control systems, monitor alarms, respond and notify appropriate personnel.

• Prepare, type, distribute reports, and make necessary notifications.

 

Safety: 10%

 

• Direct and regulate traffic, investigate accidents or crimes, gather evidence, locate witnesses, appear in court as required.

• Administer first aid.

• Respond to situations requiring CPR/First Aid, AED, etc. as needed.

• Monitor code blue poles. Issue parking citations as needed.

 

Other: 5%

 

• Other duties as assigned.

• Perform related duties as needed, including but not limited to assisting city or county police, state patrol, and/or transportation authorities in cases of emergency.

• Maintain patrol vehicles and office appearance.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

High School graduation or equivalent; possession of a valid driver's license; no previous felony convictions; AND two years of full-time college in police science; OR two years of police or campus security experience; OR equivalent education/experience.

 

Additional Requirements:

 

• Ability to work a schedule of rotating shifts throughout the year, which will include nights, weekends, and holidays.

• Possession of a valid driver's license at time of hire.

• This position has been designated by the department to require a background check motor vehicle records check, and WSP WATCH.

• Obtain certification in defensive techniques and equipment within six months of initial hire. Periodic re-certification to maintain currency is required.

• Possess current First Aid and AED/CPR certification or obtain certification within the first 90 days of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Certification from the Criminal Justice Training Commission.
