Professional Job Family: Administrative Professional - Not OT Eligible Position Details: Summary of Duties: Washington State University's Assistant Director of Native American Health Sciences' Programs and Student Services position will help advance the mission of the unit by providing direct support to the Director and department through strategic planning and leadership within the areas of development and management of of Native American health education pathways and programs, including but not limited to recruitment, outreach, and retention, culturally inclusive Indigenous curriculum, and tribal community health initiatives and partnerships. The Assistant Director establishes consistent oversight and leadership over student, academic, and tribal community areas within the new Center for Native American Health, manages programs and staff, and tracks and reports upon pathways and impacts. Additionally, they contribute as an educator and manager of the newly developed Indigenous health curriculum and certificate, as a tribal health liaison within and outside of WSU system, as a contributor to the growth of the unit through collaborative partnerships and initiatives and helps develop and manage internal unit policies toward mission driven goals. This person will act as an instructor of record. Develops, manages, and maintains strong working relationships within the University system and with tribal partners located throughout the Pacific Northwest. Provides outreach to Native communities and builds partnerships that will develop opportunities for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) students to explore health science programs as options for further studies. Essential Duties: Program and Student Services Management: 40% • Develops and leads the recruitment and retention programs and services of Native American students for the WSU Health Science programs. Also, works directly to support the learning and service needs of non-Native health students who study, collaborate, and visit the Center for Native American Health. • Develops, implements, manages, and evaluates in coordination with the Director of NAHS, Student Success Program Coordinator, health and allied health colleges and departments, and Native Programs in Pullman, pathways, and programs toward expanding the number of Native American pathways and opportunities for pre-health and health students on Spokane, Pullman, and other system-wide campuses. • Responsible to plan, develop, and implement recruitment and retention policies and programming for AI/AN students. • Directs and leads staff in retention activities with all health science academic advisors responsible for the Native American students. Collaborates with program advisors and academic coordinators to assess academic level, transfers, and transcripts. Oversees staff who respond to inquiries and assists students with individual academic plans.
