Job Description:

The QC Microbiologist I-II performs the microbial analysis on allergenic and client components, raw materials, intermediates, and finished products following written procedures, providing the data required to determine raw materials/product disposition.  Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:

QC Microbiologist I:

  1. Analyze raw materials, in-process, stability and final container products according to established procedures, and as directed by the supervisor.
  2. Record and review data in accordance with GxP to meet regulatory requirements and provide information relevant to product disposition.
  3. Perform studies to assess product or procedural problems under the direction of the supervisor.
  4. Assist in other forms of troubleshooting/investigations as directed.
  5. Prepare reports and assist with document revisions as directed by the Supervisor.
  6. Maintain training compliance on all procedures.
  7. Adhere to all aspects of plant safety programs and in keeping with GMP's or other regulations.
  8. Maintain and operate laboratory equipment in accordance with procedure.
  9. Perform basic microbiology skills, such as aseptic technique, streak plating, gram staining, microscope use
  10. Participate in the validation of new products and processes.

QC Microbiologist II (in addition to QC Microbiologist I):

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in core microbiology assays, including CCI testing, LAL testing using both Gel-Clot and Kinetic methods, Bioburden using both membrane filtration and pour plate methods, growth promotion, bacteriostasis/fungistasis validation of product, biological indicator verification, APE testing, microscopic examinations, fungal and bacterial identification using microscopic and mass spectroscopy methods.
  2. Assist in training exercises.
  3. Participate in direct internal and/or external client interactions.
  4. Participate in the validation of new products and processes, including writing acceptance reports
  5. Perform special assignments as directed by the supervisor. 

Qualifications:

QC Microbiologist I:

  • Bachelor of Science in Microbiology or related hard science with microbiology emphasis required.
  • No experience required. Lab experience and pharmaceutical experience desired.
