YMCA of the Inland Northwest Wellness Coach in Spokane Valley, Washington
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Wellness Coach will be responsible for participating in the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of all member related wellness programs and activities. Meets with members and Health Seekers on individual and group basis for wellness coaching. This individual will work collaboratively with Group Fitness, Youth Fitness and Active Older Adult Fitness/Silver Sneakers. Wellness coaches are expected to facilitate member retention through relationship building and active engagement with all members on the Wellness Floor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Interacts and engages with every member utilizing the 10 foot S.M.I.L.E rule.
- Engages members daily and records these conversations in Daxko.
- Participates in the development, promotion and implementation for member benefit health and well-being events, including Healthy Kids Day and Membership Challenges.
- Develops exercise programs for individuals, groups and diverse populations.
- Monitors members for injury prevention and proper equipment use.
- May respond to emergency situations on the Wellness Floor. Must be able to manage emergency situation and response appropriately.
- Participates in Annual Campaign and other organizational fundraising efforts.
- Demonstrate through action and interaction with staff, YMCA members and the public, the Four Character Development Principles of the YMCA; Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

``` 9. Attends scheduled Health and Wellness staff meetings. 10. Participates in cleaning the Health and Wellness equipment on a daily basis and maintains organization in Wellness Center. 11. Ensures that YMCA members are complying with YMCA policies and procedures and Wellness Center rules and regulations. 12. Maintains organized records of member wellness appointments and follows up as necessary. 13. Interprets and communicates the Mission, objectives, and programs to members and program participants. 14. Maintains required certifications and establishes personal goals for self-improvement and professional growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years of college or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education or related field preferred.
- One to three years practical experience in fitness instruction, personal training, athletic coaching.
- Certifications required upon hiring and to be maintained during employment: First Aid, CPR/AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, National Accredited Personal Training Certification. National certification must be obtained within the first 6 months of hire. Preferred Group Fitness Instructor Certification from one or more of the following; ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, AFAA, or other nationally recognized certification.
- Prefer knowledge of and previous experience working with diverse populations (youth, seniors, physical disability, race, culture, and others). Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Must be an independent worker, self motivated, enthusiastic, approachable, observant, team player and self disciplined.
