ABOUT THE POSITION: Spokane Valley is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic employee to serve our City as a full-time IT Specialist in our Information Technology Department.  The ideal candidate will support the City by performing duties associated with IT projects and will have exceptional technical skills, and a strong desire to provide superior service to both internal and external customers.

SELECTED EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Support production systems used for day-to-day operation of City business.  Service the IT needs of office and in-field personnel. Maintain enterprise-wide systems including desktop and server hardware, software applications, operating systems, system backup and restoration, network connectivity, IP telephones and mobile devices. Provide systems administration, desktop support, help desk ticket management, virtualization management (VMware), firewall support and VoIP phone management.  This position will complete a variety of complex technical work to support future business growth and the movement and/or expansion of City departments.  Develops and documents policies and procedures, creates user accounts and manages access control based on City policies.  Occasionally provides group training and end user education.  Assists with technology setup and support during scheduled public meetings, which may occur after regular business hours.

 

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED, supplemented by two (2) years of vocational or college coursework in computer science, information technology, or a related field; and five (5) years of experience performing related IT/IS work, at least three years of which is in server administration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of enterprise virtual servers including the installation and repair of virtual hardware.  Skill in use of cable equipment, diagnostics tools and telecommunication troubleshooting equipment.  Ability to maintain assigned programs and systems; ability to troubleshoot assigned programs; ability to meet project deadlines; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, vendors and supervisors; ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; ability to follow or give verbal and written instructions, as applicable.
