Job Purpose: Delivers merchandise to customers by planning and scheduling deliveries; loading vehicles; supervising staff. Duties: * Accomplishes shipping human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures. * Meets shipping operational standards by contributing shipping information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying shipping system improvements. * Meets shipping financial standards by providing annual budget information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions. * Plans deliveries by reviewing production results and orders; developing driver schedules and contracting for delivery services. * Loads delivery trucks by supervising selection, stacking, and securing of product; verifies floor loading patterns. * Delivers product by developing routes; scheduling special deliveries; visiting customers to understand requirements and conditions; introducing drivers to customers. * Ships product by monitoring selection of carriers, placement of shipping orders, and completion of documentation. * Keeps equipment operating by enforcing operator technique; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; requiring preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. * Documents shipments by completing bills of lading. * Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations; repairing pallets and skids. * Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications. * Accomplishes shipping and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
