Description
PeaceHealth is seeking a Cook - Nutrition Services for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $19.14 – $28.72. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job Summary
This position is responsible for using HACCP guidelines for safe food handling to plan, prepare and cook food according to recipe and production standards to support the hospital patients, medical staff, caregivers, volunteers, and visitors.
Essential Functions
Accurately follow and prepare recipes.
Prepare hot and cold food according to the recipe and following production and food styling guidelines taking into consideration customer/patient counts.
Maintain proper food handling techniques. Properly clean and sanitize workstation according to safety and sanitation guidelines.
Organize, calculate, and produce food production.
Maintain appropriate records according to regulatory and departmental standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma Preferred: or equivalent
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years Required: Experience as cook in a hospital or full-service kitchen. A combination of experience and formal culinary training that provides the caregiver with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Credentials
Required: Food Handlers Card - Washington and
Preferred: Professional Culinary Institute Certificate
Skills
Knowledge and understanding of proper food handling and sanitation (Required)
Ability to work well with others (Required)
Proficient in MS Office applications (Required)
Department / Location Specific Notes
United General Medical Center:
May be responsible for processing all diet orders (including tube feeding), building patient menus according to diet orders while working alongside the Dietitian.
May be responsible to personally visit each patient to ensure accuracy for every meal.
May be responsible for computer charting methods to communicate clarification on individual patient needs related to food accuracy and prompt delivery.
Working Conditions
Lifting
Cooks: Continuous moving around area. Lifting: Frequent up to 22 lbs. Occasional up to 50 lbs. Occasional carrying up to 20 lbs. Frequent reaching/ bending/ stooping/ grasping. Occasional squatting/kneeling. Frequent pushing/pulling 14 lbs. sustained force with frequent stop/start. Occasional repetitive push/pull (scrubbing grill/oven).
Diet Rep/Aide: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Consistently operates computer and other office equipment.
Food service asst.: Continuous moving around area. Lifting: Frequent up to 12 lbs. Occasional up to 44 lbs. Occasional carrying up to 25 lbs. Frequent reaching/ bending/ stooping, grasping. Occasional squatting/kneeling. Frequent pushing/pulling 30 lbs. sustained force with frequent stop/start.
Stores Coord Asst: Continuous moving around area. Lifting: Frequent up to 50 lbs. Occasional up to 35 lbs. Frequent reaching/ bending/ stooping/ grasping. Occasional squatting/kneeling.
Environmental Conditions
Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
Working near/around heated surfaces (oven).
Working near/around water/liquid.
Mental/Visual
Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
