The mission of the Financial Products team is to remove that barrier by making it cheap and easy for customers to go solar. This is a “ground floor” opportunity with the opportunity to have an impact at scale almost immediately. The ideal candidate is a true builder. Raising the bar for customer experience in Financial Products is core to SunPower’s strategy, and this role will play a critical role in driving future growth.

Reporting to the EVP of Financial Products, this role is the most senior engineering leader in the Financial Products organization. The VP of Engineering, Financial Products will build and lead a new team with end-to-end ownership of the technical capabilities that SunPower needs to offer a proprietary suite of world-class financial products. This team serves four main customer types – consumers, dealers, home builders, and investors – each with its own unique financial needs. The role is responsible for all technologies foundational to our loan, lease, and power purchase agreement offerings, including sales and marketing; application and underwriting workflows; loan/lease management; ongoing servicing, customer support and collections; compliance and regulatory reporting; investor reporting and asset transfer workflows.

This role requires actively hiring and developing technical talent, working closely with product management to define strategy and requirements, and leading development teams from concept through delivery and subsequent operation. This position involves regular communication with senior management on technical development, product strategy, status, and risks. Excellent listening, writing skills and very strong technical competency are essential. The role requires delivery and operation of a complex set of products at a very high-quality bar in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate has experience through multiple complete consumer product or service development cycles, possesses superior analytical abilities and product judgment. The ideal candidate will be an independent and curious thinker who can make convincing, information-based arguments and will never stop learning about their customers' subject matter and areas of complexity.

Key deliverables in the first year:

  • Hire a world-class engineering team focused on the needs of Financial Products customers

  • Deliver the first generation of core Financial Products systems that enable business growth, reduce risk and complexity, and improve customer experience.

  • Engage with key stakeholders in Sales, Marketing, Digital, and Finance to understand existing processes, growth strategies, and areas of opportunity.

  • Ensure the products we build are straightforward to use and have customer-centric user interfaces.

  • Establish and maintain a high bar for quality and operational excellence. Lead by example to create a culture of high attention to detail and learning from mistakes.

  • Set the groundwork for a modern data science operation by standing up the data and model management infrastructure needed to put machine learning models into production

  • Make high judgment decisions on how to accomplish and prioritize features, functions, and new capabilities in a fast-growing business.

    Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • 15+ years of experience building and managing high-performing software development teams – preferably in agile development, object-oriented systems realm with high availability. Solid system design and architecture experience.

  • 5+ years of people management experience building strong teams and managing managers. A passion for people management and mentorship.

  • Proven ability to actively hire, coach, and develop teams in multiple locations.

  • Deep knowledge of programming and build processes, including experience in Internet and mobile platforms - web-based technology and mobile development (iOS/Android).

  • Strong project planning/execution skills including estimating, scheduling, and executing on committed schedules.

  • Demonstrated experience in building, delivering and operating products and services in a consumer-centric space. Excellent customer intuition.

  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strategic thinker who will actively contribute as a member of the Financial Products leadership team, including setting strategy and deciding what our next best investments should be.

    Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in fintech / digital lending businesses, particularly to small businesses or consumers.

  • Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously of varied scale and complexity.

  • Proven experience managing large project initiatives spanning different teams.

  • Successfully delivered products and services that scaled over time.

  • Experience with big data technologies, concepts, and architectural considerations, including those that utilize AWS technologies.

  • Thorough knowledge of current software design and development methodologies, processes, best industry practices, and techniques.

  • Ability to dive deep and find gaps that need to be addressed; and effectively identify, communicate and recommend the best available solution to implement
