Amazon UX Program Manager, Search & Conversational AI in Seattle, Washington

The Search and Conversational AI (SCAI) UX team is seeking a problem-solving forward-thinking UX Program Manager to amplify our efforts and impact. You will collaborate closely with a cross functional group of designers, researchers, writers, engineers, data scientists, and product managers throughout the planning, design, and development cycle. Your emphasis will be on the planning and prioritization of key Search CX deliverables, with an eye to mitigating project risks and clearing blockers. You will work alongside design leadership to deliver a best-in-class search experience to our hundreds of millions of customers. Key job responsibilities

  • Own program strategy for end-to-end delivery using product development process lifecycles and sprint workflows

  • Apply project management best practices to make the team you work with more efficient

  • Drive, implement and improve design tooling, processes, and design systems management

  • Oversee intake, and serve as the first point of contact for key UX team projects

  • Partner with UX leadership to prioritize team backlogs and make key project decisions

  • Lead design ceremonies and coordinate reviews with stakeholders for major projects to increase workflow productivity and mitigate roadblocks

  • Establish milestones and drive sensible deadlines

  • Work to understand project needs and technical limitations and provide this context to designers

  • Help identify the technical effort required for CX changes suggested by our team

  • Clarify constraints and make appropriate trade-offs to decrease risk and effectively gain alignment

  • Identify roadblocks and drive the resolution of problems

  • Own project status communication, keeping both internal and partner teams informed and aligned on UX priorities and risks

  • Consistently impart clear and concise summaries for team projects to leadership and answer questions in detail

A day in the life

You empower the UX team to own their timelines and deliverables, and support them by clarifying requirements, clearing blockers, and mitigating risk to ensure milestones are met. You are an effective, concise, and clear communicator, with a proven track record of effective meeting management. You drive daily adherence and improvements to communication mechanisms, tools, and standards to facilitate optimal output. You collaborate with cross-functional partners to understand business requirements and technical constraints, and embody the voice of the customer to help support the UX team.

About the team

The Search and Conversational AI (SCAI) Design team is responsible for the customer experiences (CX) that makes it easier and more enjoyable for new and experienced Amazon shoppers to gather inspiration, find the right products within Amazon’s vast selection, and evaluate products for purchase with ease. We work collaboratively with a global, multi-disciplinary team of product managers, engineers, and scientists to bring the product vision to life. Our goal is to delight customers when a best-in-class Search experience where we accurately understand their intent and return an experience that feels targeted and customized to them and their shopping mission.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Communications, or equivalent professional experience

  • 4+ years experience in operations, project, or program management

  • Experience managing projects across cross-functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating project milestones and deadlines

  • Experience applying technology to solve problems

  • Experience in a customer-centric, data and insights-driven environment

  • Experience establishing and maintaining workflows in Asana (or similar)

  • Excellent communication skills; can effectively present to both technical and non-technical individuals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Drive team operations to support org health, including: strategic planning, team member training and knowledge share, workflow and processes, and collaboration approaches

  • Ability to engage and influence people and teams at every level in the organization (non-technical and technical)

  • Experience escalating issues, anticipating and making trade-offs, balancing business needs versus other constraints to build great customer experiences

  • Experience working and contributing to project playbooks, building schedules, managing issues/risks, establishing communication plans and stakeholder management

  • Able to independently and effectively problem-solve and manage a high volume of programs and tasks

  • Proven track record of effective resource planning and on-time program delivery for complex, cross-functional design projects

  • Act as a bridge between UX, Engineering, and Product, connecting all three groups and making sure interdependencies are understood and planned for

  • Implement repeatable processes and tools to help us scale, prioritize, plan and manage multiple parallel projects across the team and our stakeholders

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $66,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $159,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
