Blue Origin LLC Tooling Design Engineer II in Seattle, Washington

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to Earth's orbit and beyond. Engineered with a reusable first stage and a seven-meter payload fairing, New Glenn is building the road to space. As part of a passionate team you will work closely with other engineers to support the design, tooling, manufacturing, and testing of New Glenn Stage 1 Mid Module and related components. As a Tooling Design Engineer, you will design, build, and commission tooling and fixtures for the manufacturing, assembly, and test of various New Glenn Stage 1 Mid Module components. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Minimum Qualifications: BS degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant degree 4+ years of work or project experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and test Capable of integrating concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis for several different projects in a fast-paced environment Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5, GD&T) in creating and evaluating engineering drawings and definition Handle a wide range of technical problems and familiar with different types of assembly fixtures, material handling, off-loaders, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, and custom machines Experience collaborating with component and system designer engineers, manufacturing engineers, and production/operations to achieve efficient and cost-effective designs. Ability to manage projects including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, and commissioning Ability to set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion Ability to work effectively with a strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a dynamic team environment utilizing team member's strengths. Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances Periodic travel to support production, engineering, management staff, and suppliers/vendors. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with structural analysis in addition to the ability to perform hand calculations Demonstrated expertisein design for manufacturability and design for assembly including experience taking products from development design to rate production Solid understanding of common manufacturing processes and machines including mills, lathes, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection, etc. Experience with custom machine design: motors, actuators, linear rails/actuators, pneumatics, bearings, etc. Experience with ProE/Creo and Windchill CAD/PDM systems Experience with FEM software such as ANSYS Workbench, FEMAP Pre/Post processing, NASTRAN Solver, NX Advance Simulation, ProE Simulate/Mechanical, etc. Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $89,820.00-$125,748.00 <
