Rate of Pay:$27.80/Hourly Description The primary objective of tie-down clerks is to provide assistance in loading and unloading containers and trailers from railroad flatcars. They are responsible for securing and unfastening rail containers and trailers, supporting ramp contractors, spotting inbound trains, transporting crews within ramp areas, and operating cone buggy vehicles. Opportunities for advancement and training: Tie-down clerks who fulfill the typing requirements have the option to apply for other clerical positions (office work) that become available after one year of service. Accountabilities Demonstrate proficiency in reading and understanding regulations and instructions in English, and exhibit strong oral communication skills. Successfully complete a functional capacity examination to assess physical capabilities. Engage in physically demanding work consistently, and acquire the necessary skills to operate a variety of hand tools. Adhere to all safety, operational, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations, ensuring compliance at all times. Cultivate and sustain positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, contractors, and customers, while effectively managing conflicts that may arise. Qualifications - Required Able to help load and unload containers and trailers from railroad flatcars, securing and unfastening rail containers and trailers, assisting ramp contractor, spotting of inbound trains and hauling crews in ramp area Qualifications - Preferred Demonstrated experience working outdoors in diverse weather conditions Proven ability to work effectively during various shifts, including overtime, holidays, and weekends Physical Requirements Candidates are required to successfully pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT) before being considered for employment. Work Conditions Applicants must have reached the age of 18 or above. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring company sponsorship. Must possess a reliable mode of transportation for commuting to and from work. Comfortable and capable of working in close proximity to large equipment such as railcars, locomotives, and cranes. Willingness to comply with company-mandated personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection.
