Job Description: The Technical Writer is responsible for creating, developing, planning, writing and editing operation, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Must research and translate technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for non-technical and technical users. The technical writer produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Work as part of a distributed team that involving the creation, editing and quality checking of operator manuals, service manuals, instructional materials and procedures for software systems.

  • Obtains data from review of documentation, drawings, schematics and reports, consultation with technical staff members and/or independent observation by using the product.

  • Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.

  • Interfaces with respective in-house System and government SMEs. Excellent communications and presentation skills required.

  • Works under general supervision. May be responsible for entire projects or processes within job area.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance

  • 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree or equivalent military / DOD experience

  • Must be able to work well with colleagues, internal customers, and external customers

  • Must be able to work within defined budgets and meet schedule deadlines

  • Strong computer skills with solid understanding of MS Office Suite and applications (specifically: Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint and Visio experience)

  • Knowledge of HTML/XML

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance

  • Military (Navy) instructor experience preferred

  • Familiarity with Navy operations and/or acquisition processes

  • Understanding of U.S. Navy ASW, USW, MIW, and/or IW C2, platforms, capabilities, sensors, and CONOPS
