Amazon Tax Manager, Foreign Reporting and Compliance in Seattle, Washington

The Amazon Tax department is a fast-paced, team-focused, dynamic environment. The Amazon Tax Reporting & Compliance (FR&C) team is seeking a Tax Manager with experience in process improvement, gathering requirements, collaboration with key stakeholder teams and cross functional leadership. This role will engage with tax, accounting, system, audit and other teams acting as subject matter expert for Foreign Reporting and Compliance.

The Tax Manager will act as a subject matter expert on large scale projects for withholding taxes, process improvements and audits; and a successful candidate will have broad experience in Finance (specifically Tax and/or Accounting), Project Management and Technology. This role will participate in coordination with Project Managers and tech teams on delivering solutions that standardize, optimize, and transform processes that will scale as the volume of work increases as the business grows.

Key job responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and delivery of project requirements.

  • Organize and manage the project plan leveraging existing tools within the tax teams.

  • Communicate overall project status periodically, as required, including preparation of materials to share with leadership.

  • Participate as a subject matter expert with sponsors, project owners, and other stakeholders.

  • Drive process improvements; enable streamlining to achieve operational efficiencies, benchmarking, and development of performance metrics.

  • Engage tax and finance members to collaborate on ways to efficiently achieve results by leveraging technology.

  • Document clear and actionable requirements coming from one or more impacted functions and demonstrating a solid working knowledge of requirements to project stakeholders and sponsors.

  • Act as primary point of contact for audit requests and IDRs.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level

  • Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of maintaining and operating transaction tax calculation software (e.g. Vertex) experience

  • Experience with VBA, Python, SQL, or other database language

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $80,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $172,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
