REI Tax Analyst II in Seattle, Washington
Overview
This job contributes to REI’s success by providing strategic support in all aspects of indirect tax. This position requires in-depth knowledge of tax law and broad experience in indirect tax. This position is accountable for timely and accurate compliance, developing, streamlining and documenting processes as well as identifying process improvement opportunities. This position initiates cross-divisional collaborations to ensure REI is in compliance and to minimize risks. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission (Co-Op Way).
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Strategic Tax Planning, Projects and Audit Support
Keep abreast of tax law developments through reading, continuing educations, and networking with other retail companies
Perform special tax research projects and effectively communicate results
Assist in identifying and evaluating company’s exposure and implement resolutions to minimize risks.
Streamline and document processes.
Coordinate new store opening, relocation, and closure – work with IT, Treasury, and Finance
Support state and local sales and use tax audits including analyzing data and auditor reports
Compliance and Tax Accounting
Assist in auditing expense to ensure accuracy of use tax accruals as well as capturing potential tax savings and recoveries
Prepare and review monthly general ledger reconciliations for tax reporting accounts and complete journal entries
Effectively support internal departments to ensure business activities are tax compliant
Assist Tax Manager in training Tax Analyst I
Evaluate/validate tax correspondence from tax jurisdictions and prepare strategic response to Taxing Authorities
Research and monitor tax rate and rule changes and send out communication
Coordinate validation and implementation of sales tax system updates, upgrades, or changes
Troubleshoot system errors and collaboratively work with IT and third party vendor to resolve issues
Product mapping in tax systems
Qualifications
BA or BS in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent
3+ years of broad indirect tax experience in a multi-state environment (retail a plus)
CPA or advanced tax degree desired but not required
1+ years of tax research software experience and project management
Knowledge of applicable tax software and automated accounting systems (Sovos/ Vertex, Thomson Reuters Onesource and Checkpoint, and SAP a plus)
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Pay Range
$65,000 - $85,000 per year
