Job Title : Systems Engineer III

Duration : 9 Months

Location: Onsite, Seattle, WA

Pay Range: $57/hr. - $62/hr.

Contract Length: 9 Months

Job Overview :

We are seeking a talented and motivated Systems Engineer III with deep expertise in server operations, Linux/UNIX environments, and automation. In this role, you will be responsible for driving technical innovation in infrastructure operations by designing automated solutions that enhance server performance and management. The successful candidate will excel at troubleshooting, problem analysis, and delivering efficient, long-term solutions. This position requires someone with a relentless passion for frugality, simplicity, and scalability in infrastructure management.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Understand and manage the function, performance, and scaling of commodity servers, operating systems, and networks.

  • Troubleshoot complex issues with superb problem analysis skills, diving deep to resolve problems at their root and seeking long-term solutions.

  • Drive innovation by automating infrastructure operations to increase efficiency and reliability.

  • Design server monitoring and management solutions using automation, self-repair tools, and best practices.

  • Create and implement operational workflows that enhance customer experience and provide consistent positive impact.

  • Avoid overcomplicating solutions, favoring simple, repeatable processes that reduce failure points and increase reliability.

  • Develop and adopt best practices for documentation, testing, security, operational support at scale, and resource optimization.

  • Establish metrics to track and improve operational efficiency and performance.

Core Requirements :

  • Extensive experience with Linux or other UNIX variants in datacenter environments.

  • Strong system troubleshooting skills and a passion for cost-effective, out-of-the-box engineering solutions.

  • Proficiency in Perl/Python programming and shell scripting for automation.

  • Strong understanding of standard internet protocols (Ethernet, ARP, IP, ICMP, UDP, TCP, SSL, DNS, HTTP, etc.).

  • Demonstrable knowledge of security best practices in server configuration, tool development, and access control.

  • Experience in building SQL queries for database management.

Highly Desirable Attributes :

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, or Java.

  • Familiarity with version control systems (VCS) such as Git, Mercurial, or SVN.

  • Understanding of AWS technologies and cloud services

  • Experience managing servers in large-scale, geographically distributed environments.

  • Operational knowledge of large-scale disk subsystems and enterprise switching/routing platforms.
