UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world, partnering with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service."

The Infrastructure Division (INF) designs, implements and supports the essential IT infrastructure services and technologies that are indispensable to carrying out the University’s mission. They include the University’s wired and wireless networks, telecommunications services, computing and storage services, infrastructure tools and service delivery platforms. The division is also a trusted partner, delivering expertise and critical IT infrastructure to the UW’s extended community and regional partners, including the UW Medicine system, the WA state K-20 Education Network, and the Pacific Northwest Gigapop (PNWGP) and its high-speed research networks enabling regional and international connectivity. Among the division’s key goals are providing robust, reliable, secure, cost-effective, scalable, and accessible services.

The MCP Engineering team provides knowledgeable system design, administration, software engineering, and operational support for platform services supporting academic systems and administrative systems. The team designs, implements, and operates enterprise-level servers, supporting tools, and infrastructure. Projects undertaken will typically involve providing integrated solutions with distributed applications running on evolving versions of both Windows and Linux operating systems, as well as, cloud-based SaaS solutions that support the University.

An invested, compassionate, team-oriented IT professional, this position directly supports the research, teaching, and administrative missions of the University. UW-IT partners with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service. The Software Engineer position requires an IT professional experienced in designing, implementing, and managing complex Unisys MCP systems, databases, and infrastructure in a highly-available environment. This position directly supports the research, teaching, and administrative missions of the University.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, informatics, software engineering, or related discipline or experience

  • Minimum of 4 years MCP system software engineering experience, including hands on experience and knowledge of MCS's and databases; Recent experience in software development.

  • Experience with security issues, incident handling, capacity planning, system design, disaster recovery, and vendor management.

  • Experience designing and supporting high-availability environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply new technologies.

  • Experience in complex technical projects involving multiple teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities. DESIRED:

  • Experience in cloud migration.

  • Experience in employing AI.

  • Experience in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including project definition, planning, scheduling and implementation.
