As a System Development Engineer in Data Center Procurement Governance (DCPG), you will play a critical role in turning that vision into reality.

As a Systems Development Engineer, you will lead and drive global initiatives that empower the Data Center Services Procurement team (DCSP) to operate more efficiently and effectively. This includes creating and maintaining system integrations and enhancements; establishing system mechanisms to enable teams to consistently deliver against defined standards globally; managing system standards and improvements for global internal and external users; auditing the team’s metrics to identify and address trends or issues; and supporting the introduction of new technology that enables greater efficiencies within the Procurement Lifecycle.

Key job responsibilities

1.System Design and Architecture - analyse and understand complex business requirements, design scalable, secure and fault-tolerant software architecture, identify and recommend optimal technologies, frameworks

2.Software Development - develop high quality, maintainable and efficient code

3.Automated Testing, Deployment - ensure comprehensiveness, end to end to ensure reliability and stability of deployed systems

4.Performance Optimisation, Scalability - optimise system performance, implement strategies to handle increased load and traffic, identify and address bottlenecks

5.Continuous Improvement and Innovation - staying up to date with industry trends

6.Collaborate and Knowledge Sharing - work cross functionally with product managers, designers and other engineers, communicate technical concepts effectively, contribute to the team's knowledge base and documentation

You will operate effectively in an ambiguous environment and drives structure without constraining business objectives. You have a demonstrated track record of managing multiple projects and driving them to completion.

As this role will influence global team members, you are a highly collaborative player and able to influence without authority while also being able to work with significant autonomy.

To be successful, you must balance being analytical with getting things done, be a team player that is highly customer and improvement focused.

A day in the life

This role has a global scope so there is no standard day. There is much variety in the day, from stand-up meetings with your S&T teams on the week's pipeline of activities, system troubleshooting for customers in APJC in the morning, deep diving into system integration issues to researching on new technologies and writing a paper on the recommendation. You will work on multiple projects across multiple teams, stakeholders and customers.

You will be seen as a technical systems and tools expert in procurement and be sought for expertise

About the team

Data Center Procurement Governance (DCPG) is a global function that comprises of 5 main global programs. This role sits in the Procurement Systems, Tools & Data Solutions team. This team is responsible for defining and driving procurement’s IT infrastructure and roadmap. They advise on all future uses of IT into our procurement specific processes. The team manages and owns the procurement platform for supplier onboarding and RFX. The team manages projects to drive process improvements and efficiencies through automation, data dashboarding and visualisation, and systems integration.

Other global programs include:

-Amazon Customer Excellence System (ACES): ACES define a culture of continuous improvement across the procurement function

-Procurement Risk & Compliance Program: Responsible for increasing compliance with and adherence to the functions’ processes and policies, to mitigate business risks and to reduce process waste

-Supplier Risk Program: Manage and iterate on our third-party supplier risk program to enable the identification, qualification, mitigation and monitoring of risks across the AWS datacenter construction supply chain

-Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) Program: Supports the business with a platform to measure, benchmark and develop supplier performance, ensure AWS meets regulatory obligations under SOC2.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby

  • 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent

  • Extensive experiences in using tools and techniques analyze system stability issues, identify the bottlenecks to optimize the system performance

  • Ability to drive cross team and cross project system development activities

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce fundamentals

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
