Leadership role: Supervise a group of advanced practice providers (APPs: nurse practitioners and physician assistants in specialties or divisions in order that the highest levels of quality, service, and cost-effective care are provided to patients and families. Develop and coordinate clinical orientation, continued competency, and optimal professional development for the NP/PA team. Lead the hiring process for APPs, in collaboration with service line leaders and clinical teams. Represent the APPs at both the division/service line/value stream and APP leadership group levels. Communicate and coordinate organizational and department/division goals for the APP teams. Drive continuous performance improvement, quality improvement, and education and research efforts delivered by the APP team (generally 20% of FTE).

Clinical role: Provide direct care and assume primary responsibility for clinical management of patients, in ambulatory, ED, OR and/or inpatient settings. Deliver patient care, serve as a role model for excellent clinical practice and continuous advancement of knowledge and skills. Obtain patient histories, perform physical examinations, order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop treatment plans. Direct or participate in case management and continuing care. Collaborate, refer, and consult with department attending physicians, specialists, and other members of the health care team to deliver effective, efficient, safe, and high quality care (generally 80 % of FTE).


Required Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in nursing with a concentration in a pediatric, family, or neonatal nurse practitioner program.

  • Three years of work experience in a pediatric or family focused clinical area.

Required Credentials:

  • Active, unencumbered, registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington.

  • Current national certification as a pediatric, family, or neonatal nurse practitioner.

  • Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration.

  • At time of hire: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions. Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers.

  • As a condition of employment: Current BLS for Health Care Providers is to be maintained at all times by all nurses. Note: current PALS will be accepted in lieu of BLS, and must be maintained as current at all times. Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS certification if it is not a requirement of the position. (ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above.)

  • Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider, Seattle Children’s Hospital.

  • Prior to start of employment, must obtain, and maintain in good standing, medical or allied health professional staff privileges that are not limited, revoked, suspended, conditioned, or probationary, except for normal probationary periods due to initial appointment. All medical and allied health professional staff members are provisional for the first year.

  • Any and all medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children's will terminate automatically upon the termination of the individual's employment at Children's. Termination of employment does not prohibit the individual from seeking medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children’s as a non-employee in any category for which the individual qualifies. Questions regarding medical or allied health professional staff privileges may be directed to Medical Staff Services.

  • For staff that work in schools, prior to starting employment, indivdiuals are required to complete the fingerprinting process as outlined by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and submit the report electronically to Human Resources.


  • Experience in a leadership or health care management role.

  • Five years experience in the NP role.

  • Three years experience in pediatric health care.
