Schnabel is seeking a Staff/Senior Staff Engineer with expertise and practical experience in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology to support our growing Seattle and Portland offices. We are looking for experienced, motivated candidates with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong multi-disciplinary team.
The Seattle office of Schnabel focuses on the evaluation and design of dams, structures, and facilities as well as advancing our practice of risk informed decision making within our dam engineering group. Example projects include the inspection, evaluation and design of embankment and concrete dams, spillways, outlet works, and instrumentation, and performing risk assessments for dam owners for sites located across the United States.
Job Responsibilities:
Effective time management, written communication skills, analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to efficiently balance multiple concurrent tasks, responsibilities, and commitments.
Logging of test borings and test pits.
Provide support on preparation of reports and proposals.
Observe geotechnical-related construction and prepare daily observation reports.
Preparation of design calculations and drawings (sketches) using AutoCAD and MicroStation and providing design support during construction.
Required Skills/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or Engineering Geology)
0-2 years of professional experience
EIT certification or the ability to get one within 6 months of hire
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Positive attitude
Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several days to months away from the office
Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside
Desired Skills/Experience:
Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, etc.)
Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, or a related field
Other Requirements:
Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
