Amazon Sr Software Engineer, Translation Services in Seattle, Washington

Description

Translation Services seeks a passionate Senior Software Development Engineer to drive innovations in translation to reach every Amazon customer in their own language. Partner with teams across Translation Services and Scientists on breaking ground in the translation space.

Key job responsibilities

Conceptualize, design, build, and operate high-availability, high-scale software that supplies critical data to linguists and AI models.

Take a long-term view of architecture, proactively fixing deficiencies and/or proposing larger projects.

Understand the business impact of your systems and show good judgment when making technical trade-offs.

Drive engineering best practices (e.g., operational excellence, security, quality, etc.) and set standards.

Find the best way forward when confronted with discordant views, and influence others to follow that path, building consensus.

Contribute to the professional development of colleagues, improving their technical knowledge and engineering practices

About the team

We are the Translation Optimization Tools team. We are the stewards of Amazon's linguistic assets, which guide human and AI translations on a massive scale.

Our team is part of the Translation Services organization. Our vision is that language will not stand in the way of anyone on earth using Amazon products and services. This drives us to innovate on behalf of all Amazon customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
