Amazon Sr. Software Development Engineer, EC2 Rack Lifecycle in Seattle, Washington

Description

If you are an experienced senior software development engineer who is passionate about building the platform to support the world’s premier cloud computing environment, then this is the job for you.

The EC2 Rack Lifecycle team is responsible for the design and maintenance of services of the lifecycle operations supporting rack ingestion, rack migration, rack remediation, and rack retirement for Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Elastic Block Store (EBS) racks in AWS data centers.

We are looking for a Sr. Software Development Engineer to drive product and operational excellence in this strategically critical space. Sr. Software Development Engineers work with business and technical leaders to refine technical direction and strategy, deliver on complex cross-organizational projects, and lead/mentor more junior engineers in raising the bar. They are subject matter experts and engage with dependency, partner, and customer teams to identify and drive technical solutions to support the business.

The baseline individual for this role will be entirely comfortable with the Linux operating system and understand how to develop in languages such as Java, C#, Python, Go or Ruby in a Linux environment. Knowledge of the use, design, and development of distributed systems and web services is preferred for this role.

We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.

Work/Life Harmony

Our team puts a high value on work-life harmony. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.

Mentorship & Career Growth

Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.

Key job responsibilities

Senior EC2 engineers are constantly challenged to think of unique and innovative solutions, many times across multiple teams. The quality bar is high. As a senior engineer here, you will work on the hardest engineering problems in distributed systems at a massive scale and on multiple dimensions. You will exercise your intellectual curiosity, work with motivated teams of sharp individuals, partner with other senior and principal engineers, and provide direction/guidance for your teams engineering roadmap.

A day in the life

This is a hands-on position in which you will own everything from end to end: requirements gathering, designs, design reviews, implementations, code reviews, incremental feature launches, operations, mentoring, and the driving of continuous improvement.
