Key job responsibilities

As a Software Engineer on the Kindle Measurements & Insights team, you will take on exciting and challenging projects that help drive data-driven decisions across the organization. You will work with other engineers in your team, business leaders, and other talented engineering teams while you design, architect, and implement for Kindle Reader iOS, Android, FireOS app and E-Reader. You will have lots of opportunities to think big and drive architecture decisions across OS, applications, and services to deliver real world customer impacts. We are looking for a passionate, hard-working, and talented senior software engineer who has experience building mission critical, high volume applications that customers love. Someone who has expertise working with C++, Java/Kotlin based systems and has the ability to quickly learn and contribute in other programming languages as needed.

A day in the life

Senior Engineers in the team spend their time focusing on interesting problems like detecting performance optimization opportunities, improving the product offerings, managing large-scale data pipelines, re-architecting our systems using AWS technologies including EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda, Kinesis etc., as well as internal data lake technologies. Senior Engineers directly impact the direction of the team’s architecture, and get to work closely with Senior and Principal engineers. The services we own process millions of messages per second. We own and build services with security and low latency at its core.

Kindle Measurement & Insights team provides fast and reliable metric solution to teams across Amazon. We obsessed on our customers and ensure our products are easy to integrate, reliable, fast, and provide the insights needed for them to make critical business decisions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Familiarity with AWS technologies like EC2, DynamoDB, Lambda, Kinesis, CloudWatch, S3 etc.

  • Experience programming in C++, Java/Kotlin, Swift

  • Ability to effectively communicate with users, technical teams, and leadership to gather requirements, describe features and designs, and shape product strategy

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
