Job Information

Amazon Sr Product Manager Technical - External Services, GCNA in Seattle, Washington

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The Global Connectivity and Network Availability (GCNA) organization builds the AWS fiber network, connects Amazon to the Internet where we interface with our customers, provides traffic management services (regional, backbone, internet), and supplies the enterprise network that connects every Amazonian around the world. GCNA also builds the services we use to operate the network day-to-day and to ensure our network is available for our customers, including data services that are the foundation of decisions we make, monitoring services that detect impairment, health services that inform us about the state of the network, remediation services that self-heal the network, and testing that helps us catch problems before they occur. We do this by promoting a culture of innovation as we continuously invent new and specialized technologies that enable the world's most advanced hyperscale network.

AWS Data Transfer Services, a product team within GCNA, needs an experienced innovator to help us define product strategy and deliver the best possible experience for our customers. Data transfer is at the core of every AWS service that has to move bytes within an AWS region, between regions, and to/from the internet. The AWS Data Transfer Services team has broad visibility and awareness across internal stakeholders and external customers. We are looking for a leader with strong business acumen and communication skills to drive all aspects of product management across our data transfer services. This is a high-visibility and high-impact role that will interact with all levels of AWS leadership. An ideal candidate has a sense of urgency, acts with intention, is customer-obsessed and uses their business judgement to make data informed recommendations to leaders.

Key job responsibilities

In this role you will

  • Bring deep pricing and packaging expertise as well as networking technology knowledge and experience. You'll need to rely on your ability to define vision for ground-breaking products and a desire to make industry-wide impact.

  • Define the product strategy for a multi-year, organization-wide initiative to deliver the AWS Global Network Infrastructure to internal and external customers in novel ways.

  • Work directly with GCNA leadership, finance, strategic customer engagement, network operators, and engineering to understand cost structures while making discounting and pricing recommendations.

  • Lead development of long-term product and business strategy & goals with AWS leadership.

  • Work closely with the software development teams as they executive product vision and dive into the distributed architecture to help develop real solutions.

  • Define pricing strategies for AWS Data Transfer Service when AWS enters new markets including new AWS Regions, Local Zones and Wavelength Zones. You will work with other service teams and region launch teams to understand the external and internal factors that will influence AWS’ overall go-to-market strategy.

  • Lead go-to-market activities including: public and private pricing strategies; packaging of data transfer products and services; co-authoring blogs that highlight customer success stories, technical innovations that enable performant and efficient data transfer products and services as well as other topics; enabling technical field community to be advocates of the AWS Data Transfer products and services; and conducting competitive analysis to understand how other cloud service providers 1/package market data transfer products and services, 2/ convey the value of their network infrastructure and related products and services and 3/ compare with regard to key performance metrics including, latency, throughput, security and availability.

A day in the life

On a daily basis as part of our team, you have the unique opportunity to understand the growing AWS network and our internal customers’ requirement on interconnect solutions. You'll work backwards to devise hardware solutions by influencing the broad industry and/or to develop software tools with peer teams, working together to maintain a highly available network that delights AWS customers. You design and implement processes and that both help the team to systematically deliver business impact to the organization, while also raising the bar on operational excellence. Operating at the scale we do, there is no blueprint for how to do what we do, which encourages our engineers to identify and develop simple solutions to complex problems. We encourage durable solutions that look around corners while taking into consideration our customer needs from a cost, performance, and reliability perspective. We work closely with our internal partners that design, build and operate the network to ensure that our solutions meet their needs and exceed expectations.

About the team

Have you ever wondered what it takes to operate the largest cloud network on the planet? At AWS, we are reinventing the way hyperscale networks are operated. As a member of the Global Connectivity and Network Availability team, you'll have a unique opportunity to help develop one of the world's largest and most complex networks. We leverage big data technology, analytics, and automation to build software services that help teams construct, operate, and monitor one of the largest networks in the world.

We push the boundaries of robustness, fault-tolerance, and smart-adaptive algorithms that can react intelligently to real world events. Working closely with our customers, from network engineers to business and capacity planners, to site reliability and software engineers, our group builds software that is used by teams across Amazon and directly affects billions of people worldwide. We recognize the importance of our people, and we value a happy and respectful work environment, with self-investment as a core part of our success. We seek builders from all walks of life to join our team, and we encourage our employees to bring their authentic, original, and best selves to work.
