The Sr Permit Manager role - based in either Seattle, WA or Arlington, VA – will be responsible for identifying all permitting requirements associated with the design, construction, and operation of datacenters in jurisdictions where AWS doesn’t have an existing infrastructure presence. The Permit Manager will be responsible for working with internal stakeholders (e.g. the AWS Design Engineering, Construction, and Environmental teams) to develop a permitting plan, ensure that plan is being executed effectively, and identifying and mitigating risks associated with the permitting process. The Permit Manager will work with external permitting experts and the AWS public policy teams to identify opportunities to expedite the permitting process. The Permit Manager will lead after-action reviews and identify lessons learned from completed projects that could make the permitting process more efficient for future projects.

Key job responsibilities

• Identification of all permits required to construct and operate datacenter infrastructure.

• Coordinate between internal and external project development teams to develop a permitting plan and manage the execution of that plan, ensuring all partner teams are performing required actions at the appropriate time.

• Together with public policy, engage with AHJs to identify opportunities to expedite permitting timelines.

• Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to the permitting process or permitting timelines

• Where appropriate, engage and manage the work of permitting consultants and specialists.

• Complete after-action reviews and identify opportunities for process improvement.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience

• 6+ years project or program management experience in the real estate development, construction management, design engineering, or environmental permitting

• 5+ years' experience of the legal and regulatory requirements for projects at all stages of the permitting process

• 5+ years' experience of working on major site development projects across multiple jurisdictions

Preferred Qualifications

• Datacenter development experience

• Experience of managing permitting and entitlements for large and complex infrastructure projects

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and ability to influence at all levels of an organization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
