AWS Training and Certification is building a suite of customer facing products to help our customers learn how to build using AWS. These products leverage cross cutting services to allow our teams to solve customer problems fast. We are looking for a world class Sr. Software Development Manager to lead a team of leaders to build out shared services, to improve our organizations velocity and enable our customers to learn more quickly and effectively.

At Amazon, we hire hands-on managers. You will dive deep into the details on business, operations and engineering. You must be a technical, detail-oriented leader who can build and grow an engineering organization. You’ll need to excel at hiring and developing strong software development managers and engineers. You’ll also need strong judgment and technical skills. In AWS, our leaders have a lot of ownership and autonomy; so, they need to be right a lot. You will have to be obsessed with delivering the most customer-centric experience on the planet. You’ll need to be able to invent and simplify which is what we do every day in Amazon.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of software development managers, PMTs and TPMs to deliver key capabilities for AWS T&C

  • Partner with product leadership to develop a 3 year technical plan and deliver on the vision for the Commerce Innovation and Capability program. This is a key initiative for T&C receiving an investment of 40 engineers in 2022.

  • Work across AWS to build and deliver content management tools to speed and streamline the development of cutting edge learning materials.

  • Help foster a culture of engineering excellence across all of T&C

A day in the life

As the Sr. SDM for commerce and content tools you will spend your time working with your SDMs to design and develop systems that scale to the requirements of AWS and where security is job zero. You will foster a culture of excellence and delivery by developing your leaders and teams. You will participate in all the common Amazon mechanisms of Operational Excellence, Operational Planning, and Rhythm of the Business. This is a high visibility role with a high profile charter.

About the team

TCPD is an engineering organization that optimizes for single threaded ownership and provides engineering leadership for all of T&C.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years of experience designing and developing solutions in distributed systems environments

  • 8+ years of experience managing software development teams

  • 3+ years managing software development managers

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the TechEd industry

  • Demonstrated creativity and judgment in delivering exceptional experiences to customers

  • A track record of communicating well with executives and non-technical leaders

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences

  • A strong track record of product delivery for large, cross-functional, projects

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
