This role is a part of New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space. Are you ready to take on the thrilling challenge of providing engineering support for avionics hardware and electrical subsystems of the New Shepard rocket? Join our dynamic, diverse team and be at the forefront of solving technical discrepancies to ensure the success of our missions. You'll work hand-in-hand with our vehicle maintenance team to diagnose discrepancies and identify corrective actions, as well as author and review maintenance procedures. But that's not all - you'll also collaborate across team interfaces provide input and contribute to future design changes to deliver mission-ready vehicles, all while being organized and diligent in pushing issues to closure. You will be part of the NS launch crew, acting as a subject matter expert in Avionics, giving Go calls for our launches from mission control. With a base in Kent, WA and 10% travel to the launch site in Texas, you'll be at the heart of the action, using your technical expertise and dedication to ensure safe human spaceflight. Other key responsibilities include providing technical expertise on avionics hardware systems, support for maintenance activities leading up to a launch, investigating the root cause of vehicle discrepancies, and assessing technical risk for readiness. You'll also play a crucial role in authoring processes and procedures for launch operations, as well as supporting integrated hardware testing. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of a B.S. degree in electrical or aerospace engineering or equivalent experience. 8+ years of experience with engineering support of field operations and/or diagnosing avionics systems and hardware. Experience with aircraft/spacecraft circuit schematics, wiring drawings, and electrical load analysis. Strong coordination and project management skills, to track, manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks. Excellent digital literacy with the ability to rapidly learn and use a variety of software tools as needed. Proven ability with data reduction and analysis. Outstanding communication & interpersonal skills that foster positive professional relationships. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications: 10+ years of proven experience with engineering support of field operations and/or diagnosing avionics systems and hardware. Avionics system design experience. Power system fundamentals, including Lithium batteries, silicon devices (MOSFET, Diode...). Radio Frequency (RF) communications fundamentals and test experience Experience with Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Mode, Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
