Some of what you'll be doing:

The Port of Seattle specializes in maritime facilities, equipment, and service, and offers a 24-hour emergency response. In this role, you will provide unequalled customer service through the maintenance and repair of all water-based fire suppression systems; fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, and under dock systems.

• You will act as a consultant for Port of Seattle engineers and outside contractors on fire protection designs, estimates, technical assistance and permits.

• You will conduct backflow testing on all fire suppression systems.

• You will maintain all “as built” drawings.

• You will produce inspections services for insurance companies.

• You will work in a variety of weather conditions for long periods of time.

• You will winterize fire suppressions systems.

• You will assure OSHA/WISHA compliance.

• You will possess and maintain all Seattle Fire Department certifications.

• You will provide 24-hour on-call services.

Who you are:

• Experienced – You have five (5) years of experience as a journey level sprinkler fitter in a service, commercial, or industrial environment.

• Educated/Certifications – You possess a High School Diploma or GED and have completed a Washington State sprinkler fitter apprenticeship or equivalent. Additionally, you possess a valid Seattle Fire Department AS-3 Sprinkler Fitter Certificate.

• Desired – We hope you have a FEX-1, STP-1, and/or BAT certificate.

• Knowledgeable – You have working knowledge of the National Fire Code, OSHA, WISHA, and safety requirements.

• Customer Focused – You have strong customer service skills with excellent verbal, written, and active listening skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• Critical Thinker – You utilize critical thinking and judgement in defining, analyzing, and resolving problems. Additionally, you work effectively in a high stress environment with many deadlines and unresolved situations where there are delays, unexpected events, and priorities are frequently changing.

What else you need to know:

• Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts.

• Work Environment – You will work outdoors in all types of weather conditions in and around public spaces and commercial properties. Work will be conducted around all facilities maintained by Marine Maintenance. Tasks will be performed in areas involving potential hazards, which may include, but are not limited to bodies of water, electrical sub stations, varying degrees of height, confined spaces and during natural disasters/emergencies.

• Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

• Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.

• Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

• Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.

• Union Representation – This position is represented by Sprinkler Fitters Union – Local 699.
