The UW MEDICAL CENTER SPIRITUAL CARE & WELLBEING DEPARTMENT has an outstanding opportunity for a SPIRITUAL CARE PROVIDER at UW Medical Center - Montlake .

WORK SCHEDULE • Full-Time / 40 hours per week • Day Shift - Sunday through Thursday

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS • Provide high-quality, cross-culturally sensitive spiritual care to patients, families, and staff throughout the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake. • Ensure service excellence related to spiritual care of patients, patient caregivers, staff, staff education and organizational integration.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The mission of the Department of Spiritual Care & Wellbeing is to support patients, caregivers and staff as they navigate suffering, uncertainty, and loss. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide compassionate and effective spiritual care to patients and families; respond to requests in a timely manner; document spiritual care assessments, interventions, outcomes, plans of care in alignment with departmental standards; offer and receive consultation with the health care team in delivery of patient care, functioning in collaborative, cooperative manner, make appropriate referrals. • Serve as an advocate that respects and articulates patients' and families' spiritual needs in balance with healthcare team on delivery of patient centered care. • Triage patient/caregiver and staff care needs in alignment with departmental values. Facilitate clear communication and referrals among multiple UWMC-ML and community spiritual care providers. Cover on-call pager during day shift. • Work collaboratively with colleagues, nurturing a creative, compassionate, and learning culture. • Mentor, provide leadership, and train new per diem staff and interdisciplinary learners as Spiritual Care & Wellbeing department designates. • Perform role with professionalism, confidentiality, compassion, ethics, sensitivity to all cultures and spiritualities, in alignment with APC Standards of Practice, and UWMC’s Service Culture Guidelines. • Introduce spiritual distress, the scope and practice of spiritual care, grief education and other spiritual care and wellbeing topics. • Support hospital staff wellbeing via individual and group debriefings (e.g. Tea for the Soul, critical incident and moral distress debriefs, grief support), and by creating new opportunities for staff support and staff wellbeing education. Coordinate Tea for the Soul on key units.

Strong candidates will have a familiarity and commitment to outcome-oriented chaplaincy, be a Board Certified Chaplain, certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), or equivalent certifying body and have a minimum 2 years of experience as a Clinical Spiritual Care Provider in a busy, highly acute hospital setting and with palliative care. Fluency in Spanish, is desired.

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS • Master of Divinity (MDiv) or equivalent from seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools • Have completed at least one unit of CPE in the ACPE Program. Preference to those who have completed four units of CPE • Must be in good standing with a nationally recognized religious, spiritual, or philosophical body.
