JOB DESCRIPTION Job Number: 210451 Department: Georgetown - Specialty Pharmacy Hours: 800-1630This position serves as a primary source of communication with patients, insurance payers, patient support foundations, physician and clinic offices, Patient Financial Services, drug distributors, other specialty pharmacies, and manufacturers. This position assists patients with access to resources to lessen the impact of the specialty drug therapy socially and economically.This position represents Virginia Mason during initial phone contact by providing patients, patient families, insurance providers, physicians and other providers, clinic and office staff with information pertaining to the filling, processing, reimbursement, payment, and assistance with the provision of specialty pharmaceuticals.This position may also handles the technical dispensing duties within the specialty pharmacy and provides support under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring optimal pharmaceutical care.Completes registration and insurance information, verifies and updates patient demographic and other pertinent information with every applicable call.Answers patient questions and, under protocol and the guidance of the pharmacist, provides educational materials.Communicates effectively and efficiently with the clinical care team.Demonstrates professionalism and fosters teamwork by adhering to the standards and performance goals and directions of the specialty pharmacy.Accurately coordinates and processes medication orders. Performs the manipulative, non-discretionary functions required to fill a prescription. Performs the duties of the position as outlined in the Ancillary Utilization Plan of the pharmacy.Responsible for inventory management such as ordering products and supplies and use of primary, secondary and specialty distributors.Keeps up the reconciliation of daily cash, invoicing, payroll deductions, month-end finance reporting and days sales outstanding.Qualifications:This position requires one of the following: A minimum of 1 year previous experience as a pharmacy technician; OR 1 year previous experience in a specialty pharmacy or PBM environment; OR an Associate's degree in lieu of previous experience. Otherwise, a high school diploma/GED in combination experience is required. A Washington State Pharmacy Technician License and completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program is required for this position. Must also possess National Certification (CPhT) or become nationally certified within 90 days of hire.Also required are:A thorough knowledge of drugs and medical terminology;Excellent computer skills;Demonstrated excellent customer services skills;Strong, expert-level knowledge of insurance requirements as well as co-pay assistance programs for each specific drug and/or disease state;Strong communication and interpersonal skills;Comprehensive knowledge of third-party insurance plans and claims processing;General knowledge of pharmacy benefit managers and the services they provide;Operational knowledge of drug formularies, tiering, and co-pay concepts;And strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.An Associate's degree or equivalent is preferred.Virginia Mason offers much more than competitive compensation and benefits.
