Uber Software Engineer II - Application Security in Seattle, Washington

About the Role

Uber is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our Application Security Team. As an engineer on the security team you will leverage your software engineering skills to build systems that uncover vulnerabilities and raise the security bar across our infrastructure, mobile services and web apps. This is a unique opportunity to work with both senior and new-grad engineers, make a real impact on Uber's security posture, and continue to up level your own software engineering and security skills.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Design end to end features and systems that solve problems related to API Security, Secret Discovery, Code Scanning, and Vulnerability Management

  2. Collaborate and consult with multiple engineering teams and other functional stakeholders from Privacy, Security, Compliance, Infrastructure, and Product for integration into our platform

  3. Design and develop new systems to empower fast data-driven risk decisions

  4. Build distributed backend systems serving real-time vulnerabilities at Uber scale

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. BS/BE degree in Computer Science or related fields

  2. 2+ years of experience in software engineering and distributed systems

  3. Hands-on experience with Go/Java/C/Python/JavaScript (we use Go!)

  4. A depth of knowledge in datastore technologies including RDBMS & NoSQL

  5. Experience implementing REST APIs

  6. Strong problem-solving, service architecture, and coding skills

  7. Demonstrated development of end to end applications

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  1. 5+ years of experience in software engineering and distributed systems

  2. Experience with building real-time data pipelines

  3. Experience designing, implementing, and deploying production-quality systems

  4. Experience building out integrations with open-source and vendor products

  5. Ability to communicate ideas and proposals concisely to a wide range of audiences

  6. Distributed Messaging / Kafka

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$158,000 per year - USD$175,500 per year. You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
