Meta Software Engineer - Camera (Technical Leadership) in Seattle, Washington

Summary:

We are seeking Camera professionals for Meta and Reality Labs. Our teams are defining the camera experience for hundreds of millions of users across the Facebook family of apps including Messenger, Facebook, Instagram, Portal, Oculus and more. Our Camera Software teams explore, develop, and deliver new cutting-edge camera software solutions that serve as the foundation of current and future products. We have technical leadership openings in which the work entails being responsible for rapidly building and iterating on the most-innovative and life-changing camera products, working at the intersection of AI and camera, and building the foundation of future ARVR products. These are 0->1 opportunities, and you will be building something completely new. Our goal is to leverage Computational Photography and Computer Vision to develop camera algorithms and systems to power new camera driven features, formats and experiences that power a variety of use cases across Facebook apps and products. We’re seeking experienced Camera Software Engineers to join our various teams in ARVR and Meta. The ideal candidates have proven design experience, in-depth understanding of camera algorithms and camera systems. Hands-on experience working in Operating Systems or Embedded devices to deliver camera solutions. The candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Required Skills:

Software Engineer - Camera (Technical Leadership) Responsibilities:

  1. Partner & collaborate with organizational leaders to help improve the level of performance of the team & organization

  2. Drive the organization’s goal towards building camera related software features across all layers of the camera stack, including Android applications, Camera HAL and Linux kernel

  3. Effectively communicate complex features and systems in detail while advocating for higher product quality and engineering efficiency

  4. Understand industry and Meta wide technology trends in computing technology to help assess & develop new technologies within the Reality Labs roadmap

  5. Invent next-generation image processing algorithms based on the research and exploration of industry and academic solutions

  6. Build experiences for the Camera app for embedded devices - design, code, review, and test camera related software features, especially on Android applications

  7. Build custom solutions tailored to our specific AR computing platform, with implementations on GPU, DSP or Neural Cores

  8. Deliver high quality camera experiences with delightful filters, image quality enhancement and smooth sharing across multiple devices and channels

  9. Work closely with the System Engineering Team, hardware team, manufacturing partners and QA teams to deliver best in class products

  10. Ensure security of the camera system, protecting our users' privacy

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of experience in programming languages (C/C++ and Java)

  2. 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: embedded mobile platforms, camera APIs, media processing, and understanding of Video and Image Capture pipeline for embedded devices

  3. 5+ years experience working on the camera stack on iOS, Android or other mobile platforms/devices with cameras

  4. Experience leading consumer-based projects with industry-wide impact

  5. Proven cross-functional partnership, working across functions to drive solutions

  6. Experience in mentoring/influencing senior engineers across organizations

  7. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in Image Processing and Computational Photography, including but not limited to low-light capture, HDR, depth estimation, video stabilization, de-noising, demosaicing, and new camera formats

  2. Experience of Video and Image Capture pipeline for embedded devices

  3. Experience working on camera hardware, including sensors, lens, DSP, computer vision processing units

  4. Experience with any of: auto exposure and auto white balance algorithms, software control of Image Signal

  5. Knowledge in processors, image sensor drivers, and MIPI/CSI protocol

Public Compensation:

$213,000/year to $293,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
