Oracle Software Development Snr Manager in Seattle, Washington

Job Description

As a technical hands on manager you will own the execution of software design and development for major components of Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure. You should have technical depth, architectural know how, distributed systems generalist, strong people and process manager and able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low-level systems. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn. From a technology perspective, this is a greenfield development environment with a huge amount of autonomy, leaving us free to build and innovate without being encumbered by legacy products and services.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 6-10+ years of experience in software development and participates in active design, development, architecture and coding.

  • 3+ Years of experience leading engineering teams.

  • BS in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years of experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.

  • 2+ years of cloud experience.

  • 2+ years of experience managing a complex software development project and working in a domain of operating a service.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recruit very strong engineering talent.

  • Experience at an organization with strong operational/devops culture.

  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms such as easy to use tooling and automation.

  • Work in concert with service developers to evolve systems/products for better scalability, reliability and release velocity.

  • Previous success in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures for our team and org.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong technical leader passionate to spend up to 50% of time on hands on technical work (design, development, coding, architecture)

  • Provide leadership, direction and strategy

  • Identify, recruit and retain strong engineering talent

  • Work with members of the team and manage smart engineers doing the design and development of key features needed to make OCI managed Services successful.

  • Demonstrate expertise in cloud engineering and distributed systems

  • Have prior experience in building and delivering world class products

  • Work with geographically distributed teams and contribute to the success of his/her and other related teams

  • Work with designers and product managers to arrive at a product/service definition and get the definition to an execution plan

  • Support a highly available and resilient cloud service, and build the supporting systems to be able to deliver on these

  • Work with the team and outside to get necessary approvals for the architecture and design for the problem at hand

  • Interact with other service leads in OCI, and be able to come up with clear plans on integration with those as needed

US: Hiring Range: from $112,300 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

  8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
