Job summary

Innovation to never constrain customer growth is critical to AWS success. AWS is looking for a Software Development Manager for the team building a new data infrastructure for capacity forecasting and optimization of how our regions should evolve and scale ahead of customer demand for lowest cost and highest availability. The manager will grow a team building in Native AWS for big data applications alongside Applied Scientists on optimization methods and scientific forecasting models including machine learning.

We are looking for an innovative, highly autonomous, and customer-focused software manager with a proven background of great judgment. In this role the manager will be responsible to lead the team in building a cross-organization data infrastructure and all phases of the software development cycle for that new data hub. The manager will partner with internal customers to understand current challenges and coach the team in delivering designs, and will carry the project from implementation all the way through validation and operations. The manager will need strengths in building and developing teams, strategic planning, and collaboration with other senior leaders.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams

  • Experience partnering with product OR program management teams

  • 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers

  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in Data Engineering at scale

  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

  • B.S degree or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in any of Java, Perl, Python, Ruby, C/C++.

  • Experience with REST, web services and cloud environments.
