Amazon Software Development Manager, Item Data Services in Seattle, Washington

Description

One of the reasons why the catalog buying experience on Amazon is appealing to buyers is because Amazon controls and curates product listings a buyer sees. This provides Amazon buyers a one stop experience to find all information about the product, sellers who are selling the product, and offers available for purchase. Item Data Service (IDS) organization is responsible and authority for establishing product identity and attributes which lights up product detail page, supply chain and fulfillment use cases across all marketplaces. The portfolio of services and products we own directly impacts both seller and buyer experiences. Being the world’s largest product catalog with billions of products, and billions of transactions per day the scale our services support is massive. We're seeking a Software Development Manager to spearhead the development of innovative solutions that will enrich and optimize product data to address in-accuracies and inefficiencies throughout Amazon Supply Chain, and Fulfillment networks. This is one of unique opportunities to lead a team working on a v1 product, with high visibility and involving collaboration with teams across multiple SVP orgs.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Drive technical vision and architecture making strategic decisions that balance innovation with operational excellence

  2. Manage stakeholder communications and project visibility across organizations

  3. Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team through effective hiring, mentoring, and career development while fostering an inclusive Agile/Scrum environment

  4. Own end-to-end delivery, including planning, execution, and metric-driven success measurement

  5. Balance business requirements against technical constraints

  6. Establish robust monitoring, alerting, and automation systems to maintain operational excellence and manage technical debt effectively

  7. Create and optimize feedback loops with Selling Partners to drive sustained data quality improvements across global marketplaces

  8. Drive technical innovation through complex distributed systems design, ML/AI implementation and continuous process improvement

  9. Establish technical best practices for critical catalog platform services

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
