Amazon Software Development Manager, Global Books Demand (Level 6) in Seattle, Washington

The Amazon Unified Books (Tsundoku) Team is looking for an experienced software development manager who is passionate about developing challenging and elegant software solutions to power customer-centric products, and building a team and product from scratch. You will be leading a team of engineers who work on tier 1 services, centralized data source, tech consolidations, powering innovative features throughout books customer journey . The ideal candidate will have an established background building and managing large scale systems, great communication skills, a proven track record of building best-in-class engineering teams, and the ability to innovate and deliver in a fast paced environment. This person will also be responsible for ensuring various system-level and business-level SLAs are met, while maintaining an unrelenting focus on quality, throughput and innovation. This person will have regular interactions with various internal business-owners, tech-owners to help set visions, influence and prioritize roadmaps, and managing communication across all stakeholders.

As a technical leader, you understand the technology your team owns, are willing to dive deep in to technical details, and can provide feedback and technical guidance to your team on design and architecture decisions.

You collaborate with technical leaders and senior developers across the org and beyond to build scalable, distributed systems.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 5+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Master's degree

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
