Description

Software Development Manager for Fire TV Catalog will lead a team that build scaleable, low-latency systems to ingest, store, refine and deliver content for Fire TV Browse and Discovery experiences with special focus on leveraging Machine Learning and AI-based techniques to develop canonical metadata about digital media entities.

Fire TV's core experience is highly engaging and innovative for VOD content today. Matching systems owned by this team are the foundation of Fire TV's content-forward experience. Fire TV is how millions of people watch, share, and enjoy TV every day. The systems that power this experience are undergoing a substantial revamp to extend this content-forward experience to linear programming, live events and sports. Linear programming continues to be a very large and active form of content streaming and engagement by customers worldwide, even with the acceleration of cord-cutting. Sports accounted of 97 of the top-100 most watched broadcasts in the US in 2023. Future Fire TV experience will blur the boundaries between linear and VOD, live and on-demand, with entity linking playing a critical role.

SDM for the Catalog Matching services will own full development cycle of scalable, low-latency systems that process data at scale, derive insights, apply breakthrough in machine learning, and sculpt bespoke partner data presentations into a uniform and rich digital media catalog. Your customers will be both third-party linear and sports data providers as well as Fire TV end users.

You will be responsible for guiding and contributing to design discussions, helping best ideas break through and surface to the top, mentor engineers on the team, and take on cross-team and high-impact problems. You will help set the team and org goals for the year, and develop mechanisms to execute as a cohesive, high-performance team. You will be expected to promote Day 1 culture, lead by example and channel Think Big leadership qualities so the team operates with long-term thinking, can anticipate future customer needs, and its tech stack can withstand the test of time around scalability, feature extensibility and security. You will work closely with product managers and other engineering teams to deliver key initiatives that impact millions of customers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead a team that develop and improve software for entity linking, curation and aggregation for FireTV devices

  • Help develop technical roadmap, strategy, customer experience and roadmap for FireTV product initiatives

  • Create buy-in for the technical vision and strategy both internally and with key external partners

  • Manage prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, schedule, performance and cost

  • Proactively identify and resolve technical risks and issues that may impair the team's ability to meet strategic or technical goals.

  • Encourage exploration and employment of state-of-the-art technologies including AI, distributed data processing, data processing at scale with high uptime and AWS-managed services to enable the development of breakthrough customer experiences.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to deliver the best product for our customers

  • Contribute towards shaping the next-gen digital media catalog solution that drives best-in-class customer experience on FireTV.

  • Review, scope and collaborate with team members to prioritize features requested by stakeholders or which are necessary to scale the cloud systems

  • Drive continuous improvements with the team’s processes and practices.

  • Mentor engineers, and participate in the hiring process for open roles within our organization

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
