We are looking for a senior software development manager to lead the teams of engineers deliver observability services (granular insights into metrics, traces, and logs). Is that you? This is a unique opportunity to grow a new AWS service. In this role, you will hire and develop teams of talented engineers to build modern observability solutions. You will be positioning AWS as a thought leader in related projects by collaborating and engaging closely with the community, working with, and contributing to projects such as Prometheus, Cortex, and Thanos. You will establish and execute a roadmap of highly available and scalable solutions to customer problems.

The candidate is a leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and compellingly and who understands how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong team. AWS in general, and this business in particular, operates at very large scale and on critical workloads, so a passion and discipline around operational excellence is key. A high level of ownership and accountability is a must.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience building scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure software or distributed systems, preferably on a Unix or Linux platform

• Experience in Agile/SCRUM enterprise-scale software development

• MS Computer Science or related field and 10+ years of experience managing software development.

• Expertise in Kubernetes and hands-on experience operating Kubernetes.

• Expertise in Prometheus and/or Grafana and hands-on experience in distributed systems monitoring, alerting and interactive data visualization.

• Experience as an open source contributor and/or maintainer.

• Experience leading open source community engagement.

• Experience with CNCF ecosystem of various container tools.

• Experience implementing and/or developing log analytics, time series based monitoring and distributed tracing at scale.

• Solid knowledge of Linux fundamentals.

• Internet and operating system security fundamentals.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
