The People eXperience and Technology (PXT) Central Science Team uses economics, behavioral science, statistics, and machine learning to proactively identify mechanisms and process improvements which simultaneously improve Amazon and the lives, wellbeing, and the value of work to Amazonians. We are an interdisciplinary team which combines the talents of science and engineering to develop and deliver solutions that measurably achieve this goal. We invest in innovation and rapid prototyping of scientific models and software solutions to accelerate informed, accurate, and reliable decision backed by science and data. We are looking for a Software Development Engineer (SDE) with an expertise in machine learning lifecycle management, model training & validation, and model debugging & analysis tools. The ideal candidate will have strong software engineering fundamentals & system architecture skills, have strong fundamentals in machine learning, be able to train and deploy models along with exposure to ML system design, frameworks and best practices. The software engineer will to transform and model data, and research all aspects of HR, including workforce planning, recruiting, employee engagement, retention, development, employee benefits, and compensation. This position can be located in Austin or Seattle. Key job responsibilities As a Software Engineer, you will collaborate with economists, academic scholars, machine learning scientists and other SDEs across the company to develop, test, and deploy services that implement a wide range of econometric and machine learning models. This requires the use of sophisticated distributed systems, the processing and visualization of Big Data and application of advanced statistical techniques. A successful candidate will have a passion for innovation, interest in cutting-edge technology, and excitement about working in a high-impact domain. About the team Our team builds distributed, scalable, and highly available systems that make machine learning (ML) and econometrics models run faster. We own products ranging from data lakes to tools for ML and analytics to web applications and software solutions integrated with other Amazon systems. Robust and user friendly software solutions, and data security and privacy are our top concerns. In addition to Austin, we are open to Seattle. We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations: Austin, TX, USA - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - Experience programming with at least one software programming language - Experience with Python, R or related coding for model development and model optimization. - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience - Bachelor\'s degree in computer science or equivalent - Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: econometrics, statistical modeling, machine learning, data mining Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
